Wildwood Tarot, Celtic Dragon Tarot, and the Green Witch Tarot

The Wildwood Tarot By Mark Ryan, John Matthews, and illustrated by Will Worthington

Recently, I treated myself and ordered 3 new decks that have either been on my wish list forever or have been on and off of it. The Wildwood Tarot, Celtic Dragon Tarot, and one I literally just received today: the Green Witch Tarot. I was hesitant with the Wildwood Tarot because it changed the system and I wasn’t sure if I was ready for that. However, I absolutely LOVE the Druidcraft Tarot by the same artist.

I wanted another one of Will Worthington’s decks. I trimmed my Wildwood Tarot down because I found the white borders distracting and it looks MUCH better that way, in my opinion. I didn’t realize how dark this deck could be. Now I understand why people have it on their Shadow Work lists. It’s a very deep deck. I’ll probably use the Druidcraft more but I’m glad I have this one in my collection now.

The Celtic Dragon Tarot by D.J. Conway and Lisa Hunt

The Celtic Dragon tarot has been on and off of my wish list for a while. I have Lisa Hunt’s Ghosts and Spirits tarot which I didn’t connect with as I thought I would. I wish I could get a hand on her out of print Fairy Tale Tarot but that is super expensive currently. I wanted a deck that had a fairy tale like feel to it and the Celtic Dragon tarot definitely has that! Plus, I love dragons. One of my favorite animated movies is, The Flight of Dragons and that’s what this deck reminds me of.

I really liked the backs of the cards as well. My only problem with this deck is that instead of Wands for Fire and Swords for Air, it’s the opposite in this deck. They have it, Wands for Air and Swords for Fire. I don’t like that switch….I don’t mind if the names change but leave the elements alone! I understand it, but I just don’t like it. I think this deck would be great for inner child work and a great deck for younger clients, or for people who might be scared of the tarot. The guidebook is excellent as well!

The Green Witch Tarot by Ann Moura

I just got the Green Witch Tarot today. This deck appealed to me for the fairy tale aesthetic as well. I also like that it has a Pagan theme to it. I’m not a witch but I love all things witchy so maybe I really am one at heart. My best friend is Pagan-Wiccan and we’ve talked about it a lot. I pretty much agree with her. Not sure what that means exactly yet…but getting sidetracked to a bigger topic here….

I didn’t expect the colors to be so sharp! They look so soft in pictures and in videos that I have seen, but they are brighter in person. I like all the changes in this deck and they make sense. Llewellyn has CHANGED their card stock and boxes! The boxes are smaller and more compact which is nice but still flimsy and with the stupid white box inside. They really don’t need to add those…I just recycle them or use them for something else, but I wouldn’t keep my cards in them. I make my own pouches and bags. I don’t get why the guidebook is blue…many people have talked about this, I know, but WHY is the book BLUE?! It’s the GREEN Witch Tarot. Don’t get it…the colors should match. The guidebook is great from what I could see flipping through it, it even has space for your own notes, love that!

I didn’t expect to like this deck so much to be honest. It’s been on and off of my wish list since before it came out. I haven’t used it yet, having just gotten it today, but I can tell that I will be using it quite a bit! Love it! And the card stock really isn’t all that different. Stop whining people! Llewellyn is trying to listen to us at least! Now if they could just fix their boxes even more….

  1. I think you’ll grow to like the Wildwood more with time. That’s what happened to me. I’ve considered the Green Witch in the past, but rejected it in favor of the Wildwood. The Dragon one looks pretty cool. I don’t know if it’s right for me, but I have a friend who that might just be perfect for.

    1. That’s a big topic! I’ll summarize though, Shadow Work is basically all the stuff you’re avoiding about yourself and using tarot to help you to stare it in the face and name it. Kelly-Ann Maddox has some great videos on YouTube about what it is. She’s really good at putting it into words and what to do with it.

  2. I didn’t know the term until recently, when I started watching other readers on YouTube talk about it. It makes sense to me and I realized I was already doing that with tarot.
